Making a chick brooder.

Times like these, and may I say, they are not common, I am glad we don't have a finished basement.

So they can work on dirty messy stuff inside when it is cold outside.

Finishing up.

And now we wait.

The cost of having your own chickens to give you organic eggs is about the same as getting them at the store.

But the valuable lessons the children learn from natural living are priceless.

And who doesn't want to go gather the eggs??!!?

In the News

Today, the very self same day that we are getting our first delivery of raw milk, I heard in the news that there were 2 people  in our state, 76 in other states who got sick from raw milk. (from the same farm)

My first instinct was to panic and forget the whole thing.

Then once I calmed my emotional-wind-bag-tendencies, I thought the whole process through.

Again.

(Allow me to start this by saying, I am thankful for doctor and medicines.  But there are many times that there may be better alternatives for some things, as I have found to be the case these past few months.)

Back to the point:

Let's see...

Have you ever been minding your own business, reading a great article in a magazine, and you turn the page and there is this advertisement for a pharmacutical wonder drug?  It is a miracle in a pill!!

WOO-HOO!

But then, they proceed to use a whole other page, small print, double column of all the hazzards that this miracle pill may or may not cause.

Including death.

Yeah.

How come you don't hear any bru-ha-ha about that?  On the news?  Every.glorious.day?

I think we will go for it.

It Is Actually Fun.

Who knew??!!

If I had known how much it was I would have done it a long time ago.

I started buying things in bulk online, as it is cheaper.  And cheap is one of my favorite words.  Right up there with free.

Here are something that came in the mail.

The blue bottles are my favorite.  If you notice, I got some soaps, and some hair shampoo.  The soaps I make into body wash, this way they don't make a mess and leave soap scum.  Plus, who doesn't like bodywash?  Clean, natural, and no scary cancer causing chemincals??!!??

That would be me.

I even got Samuel some soap.  He is discovering that he likes that 'manly' smell.  So I got him this.  I am making the body wash this week.

And that yellow stuff on the bottom right hand corner?

Bee's wax.  I made some lip balm the other day.

I like it.  I am super picky about my lip balm.

The 2 tubes on the top right?  I made John some home made deodorant.

And the shampoo soap I was talking about?  Well, John has a hard time with shampoos.  Between his hair looking like straw no matter what shampoo he uses, and his scalp hurting, I knew there had to be a better way.

There was.   :)

He loves it.  His hair looks clean and shiny, his scalp doesn't hust, and it is super cheap to make.

 Tonight we started another project.

Yup.

Instead of going to Home Dep*t to buy our plants this year, I ordered seeds and we are going to old fashioned way.

And I know what's in there.  No 'interesting' fertilizer.  Nice healthy organic veggies to plant in our community garen plot.

This totally beats watching tv.  That's for sure.

Autumn Harvest

I grew up in the town right next to the town where I live now.

Yup.

My parents are 7 minutes away.  Which is always a good thing.   :)

ANyWAy, the point of this is not my parents living so close or how I never got out this state regardless of my monumental efforts for the past 27 years.

It is about Autumn Harvest.

I have this friend who  moved here from another state.  She was very sick and needed to go to a natural store.  The only one I knew about was about 20 minuted from here.  No big deal, I told her I would go get her list and for her to stay home and rest.

To which she responds, " Why would you go so far when Autumn Harvest is right here?"

I told her there is no natural store around here, much less in my hometown.  After all, the road she claims the shop to be on is the SELF SAME road I take ALL THE TIME to go to my parent's house.  And come back home again..  The self same road I have taken for travel to so many places my whole life.  The same road that I have ran miles on when I was a runner, and rode my bike on when I rode my bicycle for years.

I think I would KNOW if  this shop on that road.

pLeAsE.

Well she gave me the address, and skeptically I went.  After all it would only take me about 5 minutes to prove her wrong.

WHATEVER...

Fine, I was wrong.  It happens.

I went in and told them how happy I was that they opened up so close.  To which the owner responds..."We have been here for 25 years.  We were next door for 8 years before that."

WHATEVER...

Point being..

I really AM happy that they are here.  Regardless of how long I have missed their great benefits, I am glad to have them close.

And there prices are way better than the place up the mountain.

And the people are so very helpful.  Granted they look like the haven't realized it is not 1972 anymore.  That is ok.

Their wisdom is right on target.

If you are looking for a good start, pop into one of these shops.  They are odd and smell funny, and sell weird stuff.  But once you get to know the place, the stuff, the people, well, it all kind of starts to fall into place.

Welcome to My World

My world is changing right before my eyes.

And this is a good thing.

I started researching healthier living because I was so darn tired of all the chemical OCM ( over the counter medicine) and prescription meds that I was using. Mind you, I don't see anything wrong with necessary meds, but there are just so many that are not necesssary, when something natural will work so much better.

I thought I would start with oils.  And that was going to be it.

It kind of had a snow ball effect.  In fact, I think that is why I hesitated starting in the first place.

I KNEW that was going to happen.  LOL.

One thing lead to another, and here I am.

I don't know all the answers.  In fact, I don't even know all the questions.

But why not come along side and we will learn together.

And together, we will have our victories, defeats, get knowledge and share ideas.

HERE WE GO!!!
